My name is Jessica Brown, and I am a full-time freelance translator and proofreader. I grew up near Blackpool, in the north west of England. I moved to Leeds to complete my bachelor’s degree in French, and then to Belfast for my master’s degree in translation. After brief stints in Paris, France and Florida, USA, I now live in South-West London.
– I spent three and a half years working as an in-house linguist at a leading translation agency. I gained a lot of valuable experience, and learned a lot about the industry, and the path I wanted to take within it.
– I specialise in the translation of life sciences and medical material, having worked on nearly two million words so far. I think that in another life, I would have loved to have worked in a healthcare setting, so it gives me a lot of joy to put my language skills to use in this field.
– I’m also an avid reader. I will read anything that comes my way, but I particularly enjoy historical fiction and fantasy novels. I’m currently trying to write my own novel in my spare time, but I would love to one day incorporate this passion into my professional career and translate literature as well.
– I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL).
– I love dogs, hiking and drinking tea – in that order!
